Alibaba Reports Strong Revenue Growth

Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba reported its revenue grew 45 percent compared with last year, meeting expectations, but announced a new chief executive in the wake of concerns about inefficiency.

In a statement, the company said that its chief operating officer, Daniel Zhang, will replace Jonathan Lu as chief executive on Sunday. The top management shuffle comes more than a week after Alibaba’s founder, Jack Ma, gave a speech in Beijing announcing a hiring freeze and a company-wide emphasis on efficiency.
